HIRV Living Forest 2019

Really nice campout in a great park.  Lots of interesting views and trails up Nanaimo River Estuary.  Eight units in attendance and a total of 20 mouths to feed at the BBQ.  Alec and Cyndi MacKay joined us as guests.  Hamburgers, potato salad, kale salad and, of course, Bush beans were gobbled up with great delight.  Dinner was then topped off with Ice Cream Drumsticks.  Using his best Boy Scout talents (and a bit of help from the petroleum industry) Dennis soon had a roaring fire going while we digested our feast. Although relaxation was the main theme of this campout, it was interrupted by a few games of Bocce and walks around the park. See you all at Kin Beach and Seal Bay in August.

HIRV RG Ranch 2019

The happiest of the Happy Islanders. In spite of a bit of rain, mother nature cooperated and brought us some ideal camping weather.  Pot Luck was held on the Tuesday eve and thanks to the McLeod's large outside TV, we enjoyed videos about the creation of both McLean's Mill and the building of the Malahat highway. Eight units were in attendance and everyone enjoyed roaming the ranch, visiting the horses and taking in the wildlife. Nature at its best! The fish were jumping and the deer were everywhere.  If you look closely you will see Bambi on the rocks in the middle of the river. Bob, our host was surprised the black bears had not come to visit.  There was sign but no sightings and no encounters. Without a doubt a great place to camp.
